Dr. Mark Munro is an orthopedic surgeon at Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute. He specializes in total joint replacements, including total knee arthroplasty. Dr. Munro has been performing orthopedic surgery in Orlando for 20 years.

Dr. Munro spoke to us about the issue of allergic reactions to metals in knee replacements and hypersensitivity in joint replacement patients and how the Freedom Titan Knee addresses these problems. According to Dr. Munro, at least 10% of patients have true metal allergies, and many are hypersensitive to the metal ions that most implants shed.
A standard metal orthopedic implant releases metal ions into the bloodstream after surgery. For this reason, Dr. Munro was happy to find the Titan Knee, an example of an implant that is designed to shed less metal ions.
Dr. Munro became the first U.S. surgeon to implant the Freedom Titan Knee and now, he rarely uses other knee implants with his patients. Dr. Munro educates his patients about the options, and they consistently request the Titan Knee because of the innovative design paired with the titanium niobium nitride (TiNbN) coating.
Dr. Munro has found very few options for knee implants that use a superior titanium coating to prevent metal ion release. The Freedom Titan Knee uses this coating over the entire implant, including both the femur and tibial components. This helps reduce inflammation on both sides of the joint.
Dr. Munro plans to continue using the Freedom Titan Knee System as it has proven to deliver consistent results, allowing him to reproduce the same positive outcomes¹ in patient after patient.
